Johann Donabaum Spitzer Point Smaragd 2013

Wine Advocate: 93pts

The 2013 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Spitzer Point comes from the oldest vines (up to 45 years old on sandy soils) of the warm southwest site in the Spitzer Graben. It offers ultraripe fruit aromas along with some mineral flavors on the nose. Rich, intense and juicy on the palate, this elegant and powerful Veltliner reveals a nice mineral acidity, but less finesse and transparency compared to the Limited Edition. Stephan Reinhardt, Apr 2015

Wine Spectator: 93pts

Powerful and rich, with lots of smoky accents to the apple pastry, dried apricot and custard flavors. Sumptuous midpalate, presenting a long finish loaded with autumn spice and creamy notes. Drink now through 2021. 300 cases made.

International Wine Report: 91 pts

The Spitzer Point Gruner Veltliner is a lovely showing in 2013, offering pretty aromas of quince, white peach, honey blossom and wet stones. On the palate this is beautifully textured with ripe flavors resonating across the palate. It remains focused with a wonderful balance of fruit and minerality all the way through the finish. (Best 2016-2026) - April, 2016 (JD)
