Vinos del Viento is the brainchild of Michael Cooper, a native of Santa Barbara who made Spain his home in 2002 when he moved to the country to be with his Spanish wife, Rosario. Michael prides himself in being a “vine-hunter”- he has made it his mission to seek out high-altitude, old-vine, dry-farmed vineyards, which sometimes house century-old indigenous vines. Focusing on Garnacha and Carinena, Michael is skilled at bringing forward the unique personalities of these indigenous varietals growing in such rare sites.

The Ebro River Valley and its surrounding mountains create the ideal climate for these native varietals. The wind coming from the Ebro River channels down through the valley and keeps the vines cool and healthy, while the high altitudes play a huge role in the concentration of fruit and acidity in the grapes. To preserve biodiversity in these special vineyards, the vines are dry-farmed and pesticide-free. Vinos del Viento also uses special lightweight bottles made from recycled materials, to maintain their commitment to the environment from grape to glass.
