Proidl Grüner veltliner Ehrenfels 2015

Wine Enthusiast: 93pts

The merest touch of passion fruit enriches the ripe pear fruit apparent on the nose with a hint of the tropics. The palate is wonderfully zesty and the gorgeous grapefruit freshness harnesses all the ripe fruit into a driven force of joy. This is concentrated, juicy and utterly moreish.

Wine Spectator: 93 pts

Vanilla and lime aromas and flavors are backed by an earthy bass note in the best sense. This white verges on creamy in texture, with a hint of orange on the precision finish. Drink now through 2020. 600 cases made.

 Wine Advocate: 93pts

The 2015 Riede Ehrenfels 1ÖTW Senftenberger Grüner Veltliner offers a brilliant, pure and spicy-mineral bouquet of crushed flint stones and deep, ripe, concentrated fruit aromas—gorgeous! Full-bodied, intense, round and almost creamy on the palate, with ripe, concentrated fruit and a long, intense, salty finish, this a mouthful of elegant and complex Grüner Veltliner with fine tannins and very good aging potential.

Vinous: 90pts

Not only does this display vintage-typical, richly ripe honeydew melon and apple fruit, it also shows persimmon and ripe Riesling-like apricot, as well as hints of caramel that I wouldn’t ordinarily associate with a very young wine. These features are reinforced by the glycerol-rich, expansive midpalate feel, but happily also deliciously complemented by mouthwatering salinity as well as invigorating green herbal pungency and white pepper bite. I’ll be surprised, though, if this proves to be a really long keeper.
