MacRobert & Canals Laventura Viura 2016

James Suckling: 90 pts

Some meaty, quite savory and spicy, biscuity aromas with poached apples. The palate offers dry, tangy lemon and mineral flavors and a cool, restrained and fresh finish. Drink now.

The white 2016 Laventura Viura was produced with grapes from old, organically farmed vineyards in the village of Villabuena. The destemmed grapes were slowly pressed and the juice let to settle to ferment a clean juice in 2,500 liter oak foudre. It was kept with the lees but without batonnage to keep the fuit and protect the wine from oxidation, avoiding the oak aromas and flavors. the wine comes through as quite aromatic (unusual for Viura), pure and expenssive with notes of peach, pear and apricot and even some white flowers, delicate and elegant. The palate is fresh, clean and dry, with a tasty chalky tactile sensation. It's long and finishes clean and nicely defined. 3,300 bottles were filled in December 2017
