Vermont Distillers began with a familiar pull back to the craft. After founding North River Winery in 1985, Edward Metcalfe stepped away from winemaking for a time, but the beverage world kept calling him back. In 2008, he founded Vermont Distillers in Marlboro, Vermont, bringing his sons Augustus and Dominic into the family business. This time, the focus shifted from wine to spirits, with a curiosity for local ingredients and the flavors of Vermont.
The range goes well beyond traditional spirits. Metcalfe’s Maple Cream Liqueur brings together Vermont maple syrup and cream, while raspberry and blueberry liqueurs capture the appeal of local fruit. The portfolio also includes Catamount Vodka, maple and honey bourbons, and other spirits made for sipping or mixing into cocktails. There’s a clear thread running through it all: a family with deep roots in the beverage industry, making spirits that reflect their own corner of Vermont.
