Since the 13th century, the Ricci Curbastro family has run the Rontana farm estate in Brisighella (Ravenna), and the Capriolo estate in Franciacorta (Brescia) following long-standing agricultural traditions. In 1967, Gualberto Ricci Curbastro, along with 11 other producers, helped establish the Franciacorta DOC.  Now run by the 18th generation, the Ricci Curbastro estate balances those traditions with modern viticulture. Today, Riccardo Ricci Curbastro leads the company alongside his sons, Gualberto and Filippo, continuing the family’s deep-rooted legacy. Of the 34 hectares of estate vineyards, 32 hectares (79 acres) are planted according to the strict guidelines the Consorzio Vini Franciacorta (Franciacorta Wine Consortium), of which it has been a member since the consortium’s founding in March 1990 and when Riccardo Ricci Curbastro was appointed vice president and then president in 1993.

Since 2017, the winery has been among the first 9 companies in Italy, and first in Lombardy, certified as a “Sustainable Winery” for its commitment in environmental, economic and social terms according to the SOPD Equalitas standard. To support its mission, the winery has implemented a continuous improvement plan focused on customer satisfaction, cost efficiency, workplace safety, strong partnerships with suppliers and the local community, and environmental stewardship.

The Ricci Curbastro estate practices organic farming as a natural evolution of the environmental impact reduction measures that began over thirty years ago. Vinification is controlled in the underground wine cellar by the enologists, Annalisa Massetti, Andrea Rudelli, and Filippo and Riccardo Ricci Curbastro. Fermentation and slow aging are also carried out in underground cellar.

As a tribute to its agricultural heritage, the estate is home to the Agricultural and Wine Museum—Franciacorta’s only collection of its kind—located within the historic farmhouses. Artifacts include a stave from a barrel constructed in 1814 and wine bottles dating back to 1946, all telling the story of the Ricci Curbastro family’s deep farming roots.
