More than four centuries have passed since the Giusti family—Modena’s oldest vinegar-making dynasty—set up their first batteries of wooden barrels in the attic of their home on Via Farini. It was 1605 when the family began their journey into balsamic vinegar, and seventeen generations later, the tradition is still very much alive. Today, the Giusti name continues to represent a deep commitment to craftsmanship, heritage, and innovation, producing award-winning artisanal products that reflect centuries of knowledge and care.
For many years, the production of balsamic vinegar remained a private affair. It was made by families for their own personal consumption, but also for the most important gifts. The acetaia—the vinegar loft—was considered a precious part of the household, a generational asset. The master vinegar maker was always a trusted family member, someone who had learned the secrets of the process from a young age, guided by intuition, tradition, and time. The original recipe, a symbol of continuity and identity, has been handed down ever since—one generation to the next.
During the Belle Époque, Pietro and Giuseppe Giusti carried the family’s name beyond Modena, proudly presenting their balsamic vinegars at international exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, Vienna, and Antwerp. Their artisanal approach and refined products garnered acclaim and prestige, culminating in a rare honor: in 1929, King Vittorio Emanuele III recognized Giusti as “Official Supplier to the Royal House of Savoy”—a royal seal of approval that remains part of the brand’s legacy.
The decision to create Giusti Vermouth emerged naturally from the family’s extraordinary inheritance. Many of the barrels used to age their vinegar date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and are still in use today, giving unique character to every drop that passes through them. Vermouth, with its strong Italian identity, offered the perfect canvas to expand their story. Made from a blend of red and white wines—including local Lambrusco—and infused with 19 botanicals such as thyme, rosemary, marjoram, nutmeg, black pepper, lavender, vanilla, and other healing herbs, Giusti Vermouth is sweetened with Saba, a cooked grape must, and slowly aged in historic balsamic casks. The result is a rich, complex vermouth that bridges the worlds of aperitivo culture and Modenese tradition.
Today, Giusti is led by Claudio, Francesca, and Luciano Giusti, who carry forward the family's values with a modern perspective. Their work is rooted in a strong sense of place, an unwavering commitment to tradition, and a belief in long-term sustainability. From solar energy and environmental practices to a deep investment in people, Giusti’s vision of sustainability is both practical and cultural. It’s about creating daily habits that reduce environmental impact while enriching the lives of employees, customers, suppliers, and the broader community.
At the heart of Giusti is a young, passionate team that embraces the past as a guide and the future as an opportunity. Whether through the aging aromas of the acetaia or the emerging notes of their vermouth, every bottle tells a story—of Modena, of heritage, of family.
