Robert and Josiane Martin founded the wine estate in 1982 with 2 hectares in the village of Davaye, known for its prime location in the Mâconnais of Southern Burgundy. The soils of Davaye, which date back to the Jurassic period, are rich in limestone and impeccable examples of Burgundian terroir. Robert farmed the vineyards with great care and attention to detail, delineating each parcel of vineyard and vinifying them separately in order to express the subtle differences in vineyard climate and slope exposure. 

In 2010, Robert and Josiane’s son, Damien, joined the team and helped expand the estate, which had already grown to 10 hectares, to include 18 hectares of vineyards that begin in Davayé and descends the Rocks of Solutré and Vergisson into the heart of the Mâconnais.  In 2018, the winery was certified level 3 HVE (High Environmental Value) which calls for the highest standards of sustainable farming, lower levels of sulfites allowed in organic certifications, and requires biodiversity in and around the vineyards. 

Now at the helm of the estate, Damien is a steward of the Martin vineyards.  Each step in the process is dedicated to quality. From the time of growth on the vine until final bottling, nothing is left to chance to grow and produce their wine in the best conditions. The earth, the vine, and the grape merit passion and attention to the finest details. Thus is the tradition Damien strives to perpetuate at Robert and Josiane Martin estate, ultimately producing concentrated, clean, forward and complex wines of great value.
