Delta was founded in 2018 by husband-and-wife team Matt and Alexis Iaconis, who believed wine could be more than something to share at the table — it could also be a way to give back. The name “Delta” means change, and every bottle embodies that idea. For every sale, a portion is donated to environmental partners like the Surfrider Foundation and Cool Effect, organizations dedicated to protecting oceans, waterways, and the fight against climate change.

Matt’s path to wine was unexpected. He trained as an aeronautical engineer and was on track to become an astronaut when a single elective course in viticulture at UC Davis changed his trajectory. From there he traveled to Burgundy, Australia, and New Zealand, where he learned the art of minimal intervention — doing as little as possible to the grapes to let them speak for themselves. In 2011 he launched Brick & Mortar, and a few years later, with Alexis, Delta Wines.

Alexis’ roots are in food and hospitality. Inspired by PBS shows with Julia Child and Jacques Pépin, she studied at the Culinary Institute of America before working in Napa Valley kitchens. Her journey eventually led her to become a sommelier and to spend several years at the Michelin three-star Restaurant at Meadowood. With that perspective, she brings a deep understanding of flavor, balance, and the experience of wine at the table.

Together, they source fruit from sustainable vineyards across California, from Mendocino to the Central Coast, working with growers who value biodiversity, healthy soils, and fair labor practices. Grapes are picked a little earlier to preserve freshness and natural acidity, creating wines that are bright, clean, and varietally expressive. Fermentation relies on native yeasts, oak is used sparingly, and the focus is always on transparency of fruit.  Delta’s Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay deliver crisp vibrancy, while the Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon showcase balance and depth. The Brut Rosé adds a playful sparkle, all remaining true to the land.

Sustainability carries through every part of production. Delta is a carbon-neutral winery, offsetting emissions from winemaking, shipping, and travel. Bottles are made from lighter glass, cans are fully recyclable, corks are sugarcane-based with a zero carbon footprint, and capsules have been eliminated altogether to cut down on unnecessary waste.

Delta’s wines are crafted to be approachable in style and price, yet deeply meaningful in purpose. By bringing the climate conversation to the dinner table, Alexis and Matt show that good wine and good choices for the planet can go hand in hand. Every sip carries not just the taste of California’s vineyards, but also a promise of change.
