The Orendain name has been woven through tequila's story since 1840. But it was Don Eduardo Orendain's choice in the 1920s that truly shaped what tequila would become. When he founded Casa Orendain in 1926, he didn't just start a distillery—he became part of tequila's foundation. Alongside Sauza, Cuervo, and Herradura, the Orendains would be recognized as one of the four families that built the modern tequila industry. The next generation doubled down on that legacy, championing the official tequila standard and the appellation of origin—ensuring that tequila meant something real.

Today, that philosophy hasn't shifted. It's just gotten more intentional.

Batanga Tequila is built on the belief that patience produces flavor. The agave plants are allowed to mature for five to six years—longer than most makers are willing to wait. But time is how you build depth. The agave goes into traditional brick ovens for 72 hours, not an autoclave. The fermentation is slow, proprietary, unhurried. Double distillation in copper and steel stills happens with craft, not shortcuts.

And then there's the ingredient list: water, agave, yeast, passion. Four things. That's it.

At the heart of this commitment is Lorena Diaz—Master Distiller and VP of Operations. With more than 25 years in the industry, and 20+ years previously at Don Julio, Lorena understands tequila in her bones. She's one of the few women in a male-dominated craft, and she's earned respect not just as an expert, but as someone who transforms organizations toward excellence. Her tequilas have won awards. Her innovations have saved water. But the thing she talks about most is the passion—the desire to show the world what a real tequila drinking experience can be.

Batanga is what happens when a family legacy meets someone who refuses to compromise on that legacy. Four generations of Orendain commitment, filtered through a Master Distiller who believes tequila is worth the wait.
