Amós Bañeres is a man of great curiosity and mystery. After working as a pharmacist for seven years, he grew tired of the corporate life and decided to make a change. He took his family on a year long sailing trip around the Grecian islands and pondered his next move. Taking inspiration from several generations of farmers, he returned to school in Tarragona to study winemaking.

He took over a modest two hectares of vine from his family, and in 2011 produced his first vintage consisting of only 2,000 bottles of wine. From two parcels of the same crested vineyard, he produced Vinya Oculta made from 100% Xarel-lo, and Missatge en una Ampolla from 100% Macabeu.

Today Amós continues to keep his production small and works biodynamically, doing all work by hand (and foot). Native varietals Macabeu and Xarel-lo are lovingly and carefully cultivated with respect to their individual characteristics and location in the vineyard, and are bottled in a garage on his parents’ old farm. These natural wines are thought-provoking, unique, and full of heart.
