James Suckling: 94pts
This is another tannic 2013 with lots of dried berry, coffee and cedar character. Full body, chewy and rich. Long and flavorful. Needs four to five years to soften.
Wine Spectator: 94pts
High-toned aromas of floral, sandalwood, cherry and spice are matched to a supple texture and elegant profile. Lean, firm and lingering, with an aftertaste of fruit, spice and mineral. Best from 2021 through 2036. 400 cases made.
International Wine Report: 96pts - #50 Top 100 Wines of 2017
The 2013 Rocche di Castiglione is an utterly fascinating Barolo from Oddero in this vintage. Elegant and refined, this gorgeous Barolo opens to pretty aromatics of strawberries and red cherries followed by mint, leather and lovely floral undertones all taking shape. Precise and well defined, this continues to impress on the palate as it displays remarkable overall depth, balance and finesse. The purity is striking, as it delivers beautiful red fruits through the juicy, ultra-long finish. An incredible showing and certainly one of the most compelling wines from the vintage.
