International Wine Report: 94pts
A remarkable effort from Lisini in this vintage, the 2009 Riserva shows a bit more depth then the classic Brunello. Opening with aromas of cherries and wild berries followed by fresh cut floral, spices, licorice, and hints of leather, which all take shape beautifully in the glass. This possesses a medium-full body with wonderful overall structure as it expands though the finish with wonderful finesse. The Riserva is already quite accessible and I expect it will continue to evolve over the course of the next decade. (Best 2016-2026) - September, 2016 (JD)
The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a touch more finessed and fresher than the Ugolaia tasted alongside it, with firm tannins and plenty of acidity for the year. Smoke, leather, plum and wild herbs give the wine much of its complexity, but it is the wine's length, and in particular, the way the tannins extend the finish, that are most notable. This is a gorgeous 2009 Riserva as well as a rare wine from this vintage that has upside.
