The 2011 Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is a wonderful effort from one of Italy’s top enologists; Carlo Ferrini. As this Brunello slowly begins to take shape it releases aromas of blackberries and cherries which come together with spices, leather, licorice and an slight earthy character. Medium-bodied, refined and well structured with fine, silky tannins and a long lingering finish. A textbook Brunello, but allow this just a bit more bottle age for it to hit full stride. Elegant, with vibrant acidity, featuring cherry, leather, tobacco, menthol and mineral flavors. Firms up as the tannins flex on the finish, which persists with iron and tea accents. Best from 2018 through 2028. 300 cases made. –BS, 2016
