Carpineta Fontalpino "Dofana" 2007

International Wine Report: 95pts

The 2007 Carpineta Fontalpino Dofana is a serious wine, dark and brooding, showing amazing power, concentration and depth. Layered with ripe blackberry, cassis, tar, spices, leather and even some spring floral adding some beautiful freshness to the mix. This boasts a wonderful rich, luscious texture supported by round polished tannins. The finish is phenomenal, coating your mouth with dark fruits that linger on and on. The 50% Sangiovese, 50% Petit Verdot was hand picked from Dofana and spent 20 months in barrels of 225 litres prior to 8 months in bottle. Absolutely fantastic. (Best 2014-2027) - Mar, 2013 (JD)

Wine Spectator: 93pts

Fabulous on the nose, with dark fruits and smoky, meaty undertones. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. There's a lovely richness and slight decadence to this. Equal parts Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. Best after 2012. 400 cases made. –JS, Oct 2010

James Suckling: 93pts

This is richer and has more fruit than the 2006. Super clean ripe fruit, think raspberries and currants. A very long finish on this wine. It still needs some time in the bottle but is very hard to resist now. Half Sangiovese and half Petit Verdot. Try to wait until after 2012. April 2012
