QTR was founded in 2013 by Natan and Jessica Bibliowicz. After raising their children and many years of successful careers in architecture and finance, the couple decided to pursue a lifelong interest of theirs and invested in creating a top quality winery.

Food, friends, get-togethers and the belief that nearly every occasion can be turned into a special moment led the family to acquire a vineyard property just outside the town of St. Helena. Natan and Jessica set to work with Thomas Rivers Brown and Jim Barbour to develop a world-class winegrowing estate and produce a Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc reflecting the character of their tiny 6-acre vineyard. Named QTR, the first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon was released in early 2014, while the first Chenin Blanc was released in early 2017.

The land of the QTR Estate was formed during the last 1.6 million years and sits on an inactive fault. The western portion of the fault is underlain by Pliocene-age sedimentary deposits which are sandy, silty, and made up of volcanic gravel. The eastern portion of this site is composed of older Jurassic and Cretaceous-age sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks of the Francisco Assemblage. The vineyard site is located on the lower elevations of Howell Mountain, ranging from 850 to 1200 feet above sea level, and benefits from afternoon sun exposure and cool evening breezes. The vineyard is divided into 7 vineyard blocks ranging from one-third to nearly 2 acres in size, with a total of only 6 acres planted. Four clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc budwood from Chappellet were selected specifically for these soil, which are sustainably farmed and maintained to ensure this land will endure for generations.
